One of our Los Angeles chapter’s beneficiary charities, Food Forward, was recently featured in an article on the LA blog, The Eastsider LA. Food Forward rescues fresh local produce from homeowners’ backyards that would otherwise go to waste, connecting this abundance with people in need by donating the collected produce to local food banks. Since it began in 2009, over 1.7 million pounds of excess produce has been collected and donated!
The organization is actively seeking new leaders and picking locations (individually-owned properties with lots of fruit trees and excess fruit) in the San Gabriel Valley and Northeast LA area. Read about this volunteer’s recent experience picking fruit in Eagle Rock, in the Eastsider’s article.
